Improvising with Confidence & Floorwork Saint John, New Brunswick
Testimonial from Lorena, Saint John Workshop organizer and Artistic Director of Desert Magick. www.desertmagick.ca
Dear Tara,
Thank you so much for a successful workshop. Before hiring you, I was very impressed with your credentials and the video clips of your performances and you
certainly did not disappoint! I have had nothing but good feedback about the workshop and your performance. The attending dancers enjoyed not only the
content of the workshop but also mentioned how comfortable you made them feel with improvisation. Even students who had never tried to improvise before were actively
participating.
From a sponsor’s point of view, it was a pleasure to work with you. Your workshop material was well prepared and delivered in a most professional manner. Your attention to detail was excellent, right
down to the printed handouts. A nice touch by the way!
We all enjoyed your performances. The Wings of Isis routine was lovely and your technique was flawless. Thank you too for including the Turkish Drop in your other performance. My students were absolutely
awed by it. They had never seen one before and were very impressed.
Finally, thank you for sharing your knowledge so generously with us. It is a rare opportunity to study with an instructor who has so much experience
performing in other countries and for other cultures.
Good luck with all your future endeavors and please contact me when you plan another trip to our area. I would love to sponsor you in another workshop.

Workshop descriptions
Moves and Rhythms- 2 HOURS
Moves for Baladi, Masmoudi and Tchiftelli.
In this workshop, I try to get people to really FEEL the rhythms and use different exercises to help embody the 2, 4, 8, 16 and base Duns of an 8 count rhythm. The moves I have taught include some from Hadia www.hadia.com (baladi accented drop, masmoudi hip accent. From Saida of Argentina www.odalisca.com moves for Baladi, from Zahra Zuhair http://members.aol.com/zahra/home.html Masmoudi spins and Delilah www.visionarydance.com Tchiftelli.
Improv with confidence- 3 HOURS
This one includes a creative dance warm-up based on Gabrielle Roth 5 Rhythms, then
exercises to feel the counts of 8, the fourth count of 8 and a framework for improv practice. We will also learn the parts of a typical belly dance and
movement patterns for entrance, body and exits. The guiding principle is that the music has a pattern and that we will dance much more dynamically and effectively if we work with the innate patterns in a piece of music rather than against it.
Advanced Classical Egyptian Moves and
Combinations (2 HOURS)
